PPG's Executive Director, Sam Magavern, was featured in WBFO's news article discussing the disturbing levels of lead in the city of Buffalo. The article reveals that there are three zip codes in the city of Buffalo that have children testing positive for lead in their bloodstream at high rates. The article states that in 2017, 466 children in Erie County tested with levels between 5 and 9, which is above CDC's actionable level of lead, which is 5. According to Sam Magavern, those cases of lead are predominantly found in the cities lower-income neighborhoods on the East side and West Side. There are no safe levels of lead in the blood, exposure to lead can have lifelong effects on a child, making the $567,492 from the Lead Service Replacement Awards program a vital resource.
