Request for Proposals, Due March 13, 2020Public Research Fellowship
PPG and Buffalo Commons are seeking 2-4 Public Research Fellows for 2020. The fellowship will be open to faculty members, adjuncts, and post-docs at Western New York universities and colleges, as well as Cornell University. The fellowship will last between ten to eighteen months (depending on the project), during which time the Fellow will:

  • Research and write an original work, aimed at a general audience, on a topic related to an issue or in building civic capacity (this may or may not be a popular version of a more academic work);
  • Present that work at one public event, coordinated by Buffalo Commons.
  • Appear on one radio show and short video interview conducted by PPG;
  • Author one op-ed piece based on the research and submit it to the Buffalo News;
  • Regularly provide updates on their project;
  • Offer advice and consultation in the development of the Buffalo Commons
  • PPG will pay the Fellow a stipend between $2,500 - $5,000 and will help promote and disseminate the Fellow’s work. Multiple researchers may also apply together and share the stipend.

  • Your CV
  • Description of your project in 500 words or less. Be sure to address how your work will make an impact in advancing issue campaigns and/or civic capacity.
  • List of dates for—anticipated publication/final date for your original work, suggested dates/availability for appearance on radio show (recorded on Tuesdays), potential title and anticipated date for op-ed.

It facilitates a regional network of researchers, hosts a digital library with more than 410 reports, policy briefs, and artistic expressions, and convenes workshops on topics ranging from civic engagement and local policy to best practices in community-based research.
