Learn to effectively engage the media by building relationships and crafting your message.
If you want to get media coverage for your organization or campaign, it’s essential you’re seen and heard in the media on a regular basis. Journalists are constantly looking for interesting and engaging features. This workshop will cover how to clearly and concisely define your key message—particularly with facts and stories. It will cover how to prepare yourself to answer difficult questions, how to effectively write press releases, and how to deliver a memorable sound bite/quote. Practice your messaging and hear directly from two experienced, local media personnel as they share their thoughts and best practices on working with news sources and journalists.
Our panel will include:
Geoff Kelly, Journalist, Investigative Post
Deidre Williams, Buffalo City Hall Reporter, The Buffalo News
Andrea Ó Súilleabháin, Partnership for the Public Good
This workshop will be hybrid, with spots for 20 participants in our classroom at 617 Main Street and more participants via Zoom. Register to join in-person by emailing BuffaloCommons@cornell.edu; register to join on Zoom at this link.
