How do you submit a Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) request to get public records, data, and information from government? How can organizers and advocates use FOIL to strengthen their campaigns?
This workshop will cover what the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) is and how researchers and community organizers can use it to deepen their analysis and strengthen their advocacy campaign or project.
Attorney Michael Higgins will discuss:
How to effectively request public records using freedom of information laws;
What types of documents you can obtain through records requests;
Strategies for using public records in your campaigns or research project;
What to do when your request is improperly ignored or denied, or a government department charges an unreasonable fee to fulfill your request for information.
Please register here. Note that this is a VIRTUAL ONLY workshop.
