PS #192 - Buffalo Academy for Visual & Performing Arts
450 Masten Avenue
Buffalo, New York 14209
What does good food mean? For a new coalition in Buffalo, it means nutrition, but it means four other values as well: local economies, environmental sustainability, valued workforce, and animal welfare. The Good Food Buffalo coalition will work collaboratively with the Buffalo Public Schools, bringing national and local resources to bear to improve school food in all five of these dimensions.
Good Food Buffalo will launch its efforts on Tuesday, April 24 at 5:30 pm at the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts, 450 Masten Ave.
The launch will include:
National expert Suzanne Adely, of the Good Food Purchasing Program; BPS students talking about good food, poetry from a BPS student, Bridget O’Brien Wood, Director of Child Nutrition Services for BPS and samples of good food from BPS and a local vendor.
Also at the launch, the Partnership for the Public Good will release a major new report, "Good Food Purchasing for the Buffalo Public Schools," which documents the efforts already underway in the Buffalo schools and offers recommendations for future action. PPG’s executive director, Sam Magavern, will offer highlights from the report.
Partners in Good Food Buffalo include the following organizations: African Heritage Food Coop, Buffalo Parent Teacher Organization, Crossroads Collective, Food Policy Council for Buffalo and Erie County, Grassroots Gardens, Massachusetts Avenue Project, Northeast Organic Farming Association of NY, Open Buffalo, Partnership for the Public Good, Ujima Company, UB Food Lab, and WNYCOSH.
