Learn to effectively engage the media by building relationships and crafting your message.
If you want to get media coverage for your organization or campaign, it’s essential you’re seen and heard in the media on a regular basis. Journalists are constantly looking for interesting and engaging features. This workshop will go over how to speak in a way that people take notice and how to clearly and concisely define your key message—particularly with facts and stories. It will cover how to prepare yourself to answer difficult questions, how to effectively write press releases, and how to deliver a memorable sound bite/quote. Practice your messaging and hear directly from experienced, local media personnel as they share their thoughts and best practices on working with print, TV, and radio news sources and journalists.
RSVP to buffalocommons@cornell.edu. Light lunch will be provided.
Buffalo Commons offers workshops that share knowledge for the public good on topics ranging from civic engagement and local policy to best practices in community-based research. These workshops provide technical assistance and capacity building for social sector workers and the public in WNY.
